It was a wet day last week when we headed to Wahkeena Falls with our buddy classrooms, but we had a great day! Our job as naturalists, was to identify plants and trees in the Gorge. We went down to the creek to measure and locate a variety of plants from the Himalayan Blackberry to the Douglas Fir. We also got to study the creek and discuss what made a healthy stream. Could salmon live and spawn in this stream?
We next headed up to the falls, a steep 0.2 mile hike. On the way, the salamanders and slugs were enjoying all the rain and mud. Getting to the falls, we didn't notice the spray because we were already pretty wet. Back by lunch to dry out, another successful field trip!
