A Letter from the Intermediate Math Teachers

Dear Intermediate Parents or Gaurdians,

Corbett Grade School and Charter School students utilize Saxon Math textbooks to become more proficient mathematicians. Saxon Math is a spiraling curriculum that enables students to work at their individual math levels. They are given one hour math sessions each day with access to a teacher specialized in their specific math level. This means your child's math teacher may be different from his/her classroom teacher. We believe this format provides students with an amazing opportunity to continually challenge themselves to make daily math progress.

Students are expected to complete one lesson each day, including the Practice and Problem Sets. Any lesson not completed in math class becomes homework. Completed lessons are corrected at school by the student, so honesty is the best policy! Any missed problems are re-worked until understanding and accuracy are reached. Each lesson must be 100% accurate in order to move on to the next lesson. Tests are taken after every five lessons. The expectation is that students pass the test the first time. A daily lesson is also completed on a test day. Following the above daily lesson procedures is the key to understanding math concepts. A passing test is simply evidence of that understanding and progress. There are 148 days in a school year and approximately 140 lessons in each math book. Every student completing a lesson a day will finish a math book in a school year.
The opportunities are endless with Saxon Math, so any students who finish a math book early will be given a new book. We encourage your children to create daily habits of completing a math lesson a day. It's also the student's responsibility to ask for help on daily lessons when a concept is challenging. Your child will learn his/her math teacher on the first day of school and lessons will begin the second day. Contact information is provided below to directly contact your child's math teacher with any specific questions as the year progresses. We look forward to starting a new math year with your child!

Sincerely,
