2010 started with a bang!
I hope that you enjoyed your holiday season and are now back into the swing of the school routine. We have been busy, busy, busy here at school!
Here are some topics to chat with your kiddos about:
Reading:
Every student selected a new fantasy book for book groups. Book groups meet once a week until the beginning of February. Students, with their group, decide how much they will read and meet each week to discuss various topics about the book.
Writing:
We're wrapping up all the articles for our classroom Gorge newspaper. Students chose topics, based on things we have been studying and learning about the Gorge. They then developed 1-3 feature articles and creative articles for our newspaper. We hope to have published copies for everyone to enjoy in the next couple of weeks. For writing, we are delving into realistic fiction short stories and essays. We're studying the author's craft and starting to brainstorm ideas for our own stories.
Math:
The end of the 2nd trimester is February 25. To make adequate progress, most students should be completing 4-5 lessons a week, in addition to one test a week.
Gorge Studies:
We kicked off our birds of prey study and are learning quite a lot about the extreme, resilient and majestic birds of prey.
